Who I am
My name is Lucia Tecuta and I am an Italian-American fully licensed clinical psychologist based in Bologna with advanced training in cognitive-behavioral therapies, psychotraumatology, ecotherapy and climate-conscious therapy.
I an an assistant professor at the University of Bologna and Associate Editor of the research journal Rational-Emotive Cognitive-Behavior Therapy. I am also a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Clinical and Developmental Psychology.
I trained and worked for the past 15 years in both US and Italian clinical and research institutes, including Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, Columbia Psychiatry, Teachers College research laboratories, AUSL public mental health services through out the Emilia-Romagna region (Italy).
Experiences
In my academic and professional journey, I have served as a Junior Assistant Professor and Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Bologna, where I contribute to both teaching in clinical psychology and research on a wide variety of clinical issues including maladaptive thinking patterns, depression and eating disorders, psychological well-being, and more recently eco-anxiety, connection to nature and sustainable behaviors.
I have also pursued specialized research internationally as a Visiting PhD Student at St. John's University, with earlier experiences as a Research Assistant in mental health and personality, trauma and loss, and global mental health at institutions like Teachers College, Columbia University, New York State Psychiatric Institute, and Mount Sinai Medical Center.
Alongside my academic roles, I run a private clinical practice, providing psychological services. I also collaborate with local American colleges providing psychological support for adjustment to life abroad and workshops on climate change and mental health.
I completed my studies at the City University of New York (BA) and Columbia University in the City of New York (MA). After moving to Italy in 2011, I continued my training obtaining a PhD in Psychological Sciences at the University of Bologna and a four year-specialization in CBT approaches.
I became a certified Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapist in 2018 training at the Albert Ellis Institute of New York where I also spent time during my PhD training under the supervision of Prof. Raymond DiGiuseppe. In 2023 I completed an advanced training in the Assessment and Treatment of Trauma (Beck Institute, Rome, Italy)
Recently I trained in eco and climate-conscious therapy with world-renowned enviromental psychology expert Dr. Thomas Doherty, an approach applies specific tools to understand, process and tackle difficult psychological responses to climate change as well as fostering one's connection with nature.
