About Me

My Training

I am a clinician and psychologist with a background in psychological research with over 20 years of experience across clinical, research, and university settings in the United States and Italy. I hold a research PhD in Psychological Sciences and a clinical PsyD specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), with additional expertise in psychotraumatology and EMDR.

Background in Clinical Research

My research has focused on CBT and REBT and, more recently, climate psychology and ecopsychology including eco-anxiety, climate worry, and environmental identity during my time as a researcher at the University of Bologna, Psychology Department. My reseach articles have been published in international peer-reviewed journals and I've authored academic book chapters published with Springer Nature and Wiley.

During my studies in the United States, where I grew up, I trained in a range of academic and clinical settings in New York, working on loss, trauma, and global mental health. I contributed to the adaptation of psychological interventions for vulnerable and low-resource communities and participated in a research project on survivors of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

These experiences strengthened my interest in the interplay between trauma, resilience, environmental context, and the collective dimensions of psychological suffering, an interest that now informs my work in climate psychology and ecopsychology.

Past Work Experiences

I have worked at institutions including Columbia University, the New York State Psychiatric Institute, and Mount Sinai Medical Center, as well as within the Italian National Health Service and the University of Bologna, in the latter as a researcher with teaching duties. Since 2017, I have maintained a private practice in Italy and also work with American university programs in Bologna including Berkeley University, supporting international students and expats navigating the challenges of living abroad.

Current directions

Across my work, I am particularly interested in helping people, individuals and communities, develop resilience, psychological flexibility, and meaning in times of change—whether personal, relational, societal, or environmental. I aim to bring together rigorous psychological science with an awareness of the wider contexts in which we live, while tailoring therapy to each person's needs, values, and circumstances.
